    Look at the following sentences:

    1. I like both ice cream and cakes.
    2. He couldn’t go to the park because it was raining outside.
    3. Susan finished her homework so can she watch cartoons now?
    4. Do you like painting or drawing?

    All the above-highlighted words like and, because, so and or mentioned in the above sentences are called conjunctions.

    Conjunctions Examples

    Conjunctions are used to join words, phrases, or sentences to show connections between ideas. These are also known as joining words.
    For example, Manuel ate pasta and pizza for dinner.

    Examples of Conjunctions Used in Sentences

    1. I can have an apple or a banana for a snack.
    2. Jack wore my raincoat because it was raining.
    3. I like pizza and ice cream.
    4. It was getting late, so we decided to go home.
    5. Kids stayed indoors because it was too cold outside.

    Uses of Conjunctions

    1. And

    "And" is used to join two similar ideas or phrases. For example, Jack likes to play soccer and basketball as well.

    2. But

    "But" is used to show a contrast or difference in the sentence. For example, I want to play outside but it’s snowing.

    3. Because

    "Because" is used to explain the reason. For example, The teacher punished us because we forgot to do homework.

    4. When

    "When" is used to indicate a specific time or condition. For example, I will go to the park when it stops raining.

    5. If,

    "If" is used to show a condition or a possibility. For example, If Roy finishes his dinner, he can have dessert.
