    b) In the past, people would walk or ride animals to travel. Then, they invented carts with wheels that were pulled by animals to move faster.
    c) Nowadays, we have new and improved vehicles that have engines. These vehicles use fuels like petrol, diesel, electricity, or CNG to run.
    d) They help us travel long distances in a short amount of time.
    e) We use different types of transport, like cars, trains, planes, and boats, to go on trips or to bring things from one place to another.

    Types of Transport

    Different types of transportation can be categorised into different means of transport:

    1. Land Transport: Road transport and Rail transport
    2. Water Transport
    3. Air Transport

    Land Transport

    Land transport refers to vehicles that move on land. There are two main types of land transport: Road transport and rail transport.

    Road Transport

    a) When we travel on roads, we use different vehicles like bicycles, cars, buses, and scooters.
    b) Bicycles are great for short distances and are powered by people pedalling.
    c) Cars, buses, and bikes run on engines that use petrol, diesel, or gas.
    d) Trucks and lorries are used to carry goods over long distances. They also run on petrol or diesel.

    Tram Electric rail vehicle often used in urban areas.
    Taxis On-demand motorized transportation for individuals or small groups.
    Electric Scooter Small electric vehicles for short trips in urban areas.
    Cable Car Transport vehicle suspended on a cable, often in hilly areas.
    Rickshaw Human-powered vehicle often used in some Asian cities.

    a) Rail transport involves trains that run on tracks.
    b) Trains can carry passengers or goods.
    c) They are a popular means of transport for travelling long distances and are used in some cities for local transportation too.
    d) They have engines that can run on different things like diesel, electricity, or steam.
    e) Passenger trains are for people to travel in, and goods trains are for carrying things from one place to another.

    a) Water transport refers to the means of transport used to travel across canals, lakes, rivers, seas, and oceans.
    b) Water transport is often less expensive than air transport, and it is used to carry heavy loads between countries.
    c) There are different types of water transport, such as ships, boats, cargo ships, sailboats, steamers, and cruise ships.
    d) These vehicles help us travel on water and transport goods or people from one place to another.

    Boat A small, flat-bottomed watercraft that floats on water. People row or paddle it to move across the water.
    Ship A big and strong water vehicle that can carry people and things across the ocean. Ships have sails or engines to help them move.
    Sailboat A type of boat that uses large sails to catch the wind and move across the water.
    Canoe A small, narrow boat that can be paddled with a single-bladed paddle.
    Rowboat A small boat that people row with oars. It's usually used on calm water like lakes.
    Ferry A large boat that carries people, cars, and even trucks across rivers or seas.
    Submarine A special underwater vehicle that can go underwater and explore the deep sea.
    Raft A simple floating platform made of logs or inflatable materials, often used for fun in rivers.
    Cruise Ship A huge and fancy ship where people go on vacation. It has restaurants, swimming pools, and entertainment.
    Speedboat A small, fast boat often used for water sports or racing.

    Air Transport

    a) Air transport is a special way of travelling to far-off places by flying by air.
    b) It's the fastest way to reach distant destinations, but it's also the most expensive.
    c) The main vehicle used for air transport is an aeroplane.
    d) Aeroplanes can carry many people and also transport goods to different places.
    e) On the other hand, helicopters are smaller and can carry only a few people. They are not used for public transportation as much as aeroplanes.

    Special vehicles are special types of vehicles that are made for specific purposes. They are different from regular vehicles because they have unique jobs to do.

    Some examples of special vehicles are police cars, tractors, ambulances, firetrucks, cable cars, garbage trucks and hot-air balloons.
