    Importance of Gender

    1. As we learn about genders, we also learn how to use pronouns that are unique to each gender, such as she/her for girls and he/him for boys.
    2. To avoid confusion, we learn which words to use when referring to boys, girls, pets, or different jobs. For example, A tiger is a male animal and a tigress is a female animal.
    3. Knowing someone's gender can be helpful in getting to know them since it enables us to know if they are a boy or a girl.

    Types of Gender

    There are four types of gender. These are:

    1. Feminine

    1. Feminine refers to someone or something that is a female.
    2. When a thing is referred to as feminine, it means that the thing is connected to the characteristics of a female.
    3. Examples of feminine gender are mother, daughter, lady, girl, etc. Let's use feminine words in sentences:

      → I am the daughter of my parents.
      In the above sentence, daughter is a feminine word.

    2. Masculine

    1. Masculine refers to someone or something that is a male.
    2. When something is referred to as masculine, it means that it is connected to the characteristics of a male.
    3. Examples of masculine gender are boy, man, husband, brother, etc. Let's use masculine words in sentences:

      → That boy is my classmate.
      Here ‘boy’ is a masculine word.

    3. Common

    1. The term common gender refers to a word or noun that is used for both male and female genders.
    2. In the English language, there are many nouns with a common gender as they can refer to both feminine and masculine without any gender differentiation.
    3. Examples of common gender are teachers, students, children, babies, etc. Let's use common gender words in sentences:

      → They are my cousins.
      Cousins can be either feminine or masculine. Therefore, it is a common gender.

      A blanket does not have any gender. Thus, it is a neuter gender.
