    Tenses refer to the form of a verb that indicates the time when an action takes place. It helps us understand if something is happening now, in the past or in the future.

    Examples:

    1. I eat breakfast every morning along with my parents.
    2. Kelly danced at the party last night.
    3. She will read a new novel soon.
    4. Kids finished their homework.
    5. She plays with her dog after school.

    Tenses are divided into present, past and future tense.

    Types of Tenses

    1. Present Tense

    The simple present tense or present indefinite tense is used for the things that are happening currently or going on at the present.

    Examples of present tense:

    → I eat breakfast every morning.
    → You do your homework.
    → She doesn't like dancing.
    → We don't play after dark.
    → A cat sleeps peacefully in the basket.

    Rules to Follow:

    → While using regular verbs we simply add "-s" to the base form of the verb when talking about he, she, or it. For example, Susan plays with her pet.

    → While using irregular verbs we don't follow the regular pattern. They change in different ways. For example, Susan has a pet.

    2. Past Tense

    The simple past tense is used to show something that happened once or several times in the past. It is used for telling about things that happened in the past.

    Examples of past tense:

    → We played soccer yesterday.
    → She ate pizza for dinner.
    → Henry didn't like to watch movies.
    → They didn't visit the zoo last week.
    → Students finished their homework earlier today.

    Past Tense Examples

    Rules to Follow:

    → While using regular verbs we add "ed" to the base form of the verb. For example, I played tennis with my father last Sunday.

    → While using irregular verbs, we change in different ways. For example, "I go to the park" changes into "I went to the park".

    3. Future Tense

    The simple future tense is used to show plans or promises for the things that will happen in the future.

    Examples of future tense:

    → I will go to the park tomorrow.
    → We will eat ice cream after dinner.
    → Shelly will go shopping on Saturday.
    → They will not have a party next week.
    → Henry will not read the comic tonight.
