    Lines are everywhere! They form the boundaries of shapes, outline the edges of objects, and create patterns that make our world beautiful and organised.

    Definition of a line

    A line is a collection of points. It is a geometrical object that is straight and infinitely long.

    Types of Lines

    1. Straight Lines: A straight line is the shortest line connecting any 2 points. Various forms of straight lines include:

    1. Horizontal line
    2. Vertical line
    3. Slanting line

    Some straight lines are shown as:

    2. Horizontal lines: A line that runs from left to right is horizontal.

    3. Vertical lines: A line that runs straight up and down from top to bottom or bottom to up. In other words, standing-up lines are also vertical lines.

    4. Slanting lines: The lines drawn in a slanting position are called slanting lines.

    5. Curved lines: A line that is not straight is a curved line.

    Different Types of Shapes

    Everything around us has a shape. We see simple shapes like circles, squares and triangles in many things we use every day. For example, a dinner plate is usually a circle, a window can look like a square, and a piece of pizza is shaped like a triangle. We also see shapes like cubes and spheres in objects like dice and soccer balls.
