    A personal pronoun is a type of pronoun that replaces a specific person or a group of people. Personal pronouns are used to avoid repetition of nouns in a paragraph. They can represent first person, second person and third person and can be both in singular or plural form.

    Types of Personal Pronouns

    Singular Personal Pronouns

    This type of pronouns are used when we refer to only one person or one thing.

    Commonly used singular personal pronouns are:

    1. First-person pronoun: I, me
    2. Second person pronoun: You
    3. Third person pronoun: she, her, it, he, him 

    Plural Personal Pronouns

    This type of pronouns are used when we want to refer to more than one person or more than one thing. 

    Commonly used plural personal pronouns are:

    1. First-person pronoun: us, we
    2. Second person pronoun: you
    3. Third person pronoun: them, they

    Subjective Personal Pronouns

    1. This type of pronouns are used as the subject of a sentence. 
    2. They are also called subject pronouns.
    3. They replace the subject in a sentence. 
    4. I, you, we, he, she, it, they are subjective personal pronouns. 

    Objective Personal Pronouns

    1. This type of pronouns replace the object of a sentence. 
    2. You, me, her, him, us, it, them are objective personal pronouns.

    When to Use Personal Pronouns?

    1. Personal pronouns are used to introduce oneself to others in a conversation. For example, I am a student. 
    2. They are used to refer to others. For example, He is my classmate. 
    3. They are used to speak someone directly. For example, Can you please give me some? 
    4. They are used for a group of people or a group of things. For example, They want to visit Delhi this week. 
    5. They are used where there is repetition of nouns in a sentence or a paragraph.
    6. They provide clarity and avoid confusion on what is being talked about. For example, The giant balloon popped and it scared me. 

    Common Mistakes With Personal Pronouns

    1. By mistake, students use object pronouns in place of subject pronouns. For example, ‘Me and Varun went to the mall.’ is an incorrect sentence. ‘Varun and I went to the mall’ is the correct sentence. 
    2. Students may use the wrong kind of personal pronoun while writing or speaking. For example, they may write ‘Rajvir is my brother, they is two years younger than me.’ instead of ‘Rajvir is my brother, he is two years younger than me.’
    3. Students may use ‘it’ without giving a clear reference thus creating confusion in a sentence.
