    a) The root system includes the parts of the plant that we can’t see because they are usually underground.
    b) Roots anchor the plant in the soil and absorb water and nutrients from the soil.

    The Shoot System

    The shoot system contains the parts of plants that are visible to us and present above the ground. It includes:

    Stem

    a) This is the part of the plant that holds it upright/straight and supports the leaves and flowers.
    b) It also transports water and nutrients from the roots to the rest of the plant and food from the leaves to the rest of the plant.
    c) Potato, ginger and asparagus are a few examples of the stems that we eat.

    a) These are the flat and green parts of the plant that grows out of the stem.
    b) Their main function is to make food for the plant by using sunlight, water and carbon dioxide.
